Home chargers

Find a home charger

Home chargers are private chargers shared by EV owners across Australia. They appear on the Plugroo map alongside public stations — and they work a little differently.

On the map

How to spot them

  • Home chargers show as a red house pin on the map.
  • They're on by default. To hide them, open filters and switch off "Home Charger" under Availability.

Before you visit

Before you visit, get in touch

  1. 1The pin shows the general area only, not the exact address. This protects the owner’s privacy.
  2. 2Tap "Show phone number" on the listing and contact the owner first — a quick call or text to check the charger is available, agree on a time, and get the exact address.
  3. 3Never turn up unannounced. A home charger is someone's driveway, not a public station.
  4. 4Any cost is between you and the owner. Some owners share for free; others ask for a small contribution towards electricity. The listing gives a hint, but confirm when you get in touch.
What to expect

What to expect

  • Home chargers are typically AC (7–22 kW) — good for a top-up over a longer stop, not a rapid charge.
  • Check the connector details on the listing. Some units are socket-only, so you may need your own Type 2 cable.
  • After your visit, check in on the listing — it helps other drivers know the charger is active and helps the owner too.

Regional gaps

In areas with few public chargers, a shared home charger can be the difference that makes a trip possible.

Charging near where you're staying, arranged directly with a local.
