Why a depot is a different beast

When dozens of vehicles plug in at once after a shift, a depot's power demand can spike by hundreds of kilowatts — into megawatt territory for a full electric bus depot. That triggers expensive grid upgrades and steep demand charges that can quietly eat the savings electrification was meant to deliver. For a bus operator running to-the-second timetables, charging that can't keep up doesn't just cost money — it strands passengers.
